Terms of service.

These terms cover use of this website and how Slate Marketing LLC works with clients. Each engagement also has a short written proposal that states its scope and price; where the two differ, the proposal wins.

What we do

Slate Marketing LLC provides local SEO, website design and hosting, reputation management, and paid advertising management for local businesses. Each plan and its price are set out in a written agreement before work begins.

Pricing and billing

Every plan is billed monthly, in advance, by card, with the first month charged at signing. Prices are fixed and published on our pricing page: The Adaptive Package $497 a month per location, setup included, with the website built and kept up; a website on its own from $147 a month; Reviews on Autopilot $229 a month; and the ads add-on $499 a month plus 12% of ad spend. If you would rather pay ahead, pay 6 months ahead and one month are free; pay 12 months ahead and 3 months are free. We may change published prices with notice, but a price agreed in a signed agreement does not change during the period it covers.

The six-month term

Every plan starts with a 6-month term, then continues month to month until either side ends it with 30 days' written notice. A client who ends a plan before the term is over gives 30 days' notice and pays one month's fee. Prepaid periods are not refunded, with one exception: if the work was our mistake, we make it right, and where a mistake of ours cannot be put right we refund the fees it affected. We send every client a text every Monday with their numbers so they can judge the work.

Advertising spend

Advertising budgets are paid by the client directly to Google, Meta, or the platform in question, from an account the client owns and controls, and are separate from our management fee. The client sets the budget. We never charge per lead, and we do not pay ad spend on a client's behalf.

What we promise

On The Adaptive Package, we promise the client's Google Business Profile rebuilt within 30 days and the Monday number sent every week; if we miss either, the seventh month is free. No ranking, map position, review count, call count, lead count, or revenue is guaranteed: search engines and advertising platforms are run by third parties, and the Google Map Pack in particular changes from day to day.

What we ask of clients

Clients give us access to the accounts the work needs (Google Business Profile, domain, hosting, advertising and social accounts), accurate information about the business, real photos of their work, and timely approvals. Clients confirm that they have the right to use the photos, text, and reviews they give us and that they may contact their own customers to ask for reviews. Review requests go to every customer the same way; we never buy reviews, post fake ones, or filter customers by how they are likely to rate the business, and we will not do so at a client's request.

Ownership

Clients own their domain name, their Google Business Profile, their advertising and social accounts, and the content, photos, and reviews they provide, at all times. If we register a domain on a client's behalf, it is transferred to the client on request when the engagement ends. The code of a website we built is delivered to the client on request when the engagement ends, once the client's account is paid up. Tools, templates, and systems we use across clients remain ours.

Timelines

Websites usually launch two to four weeks after we have the client's content and approvals. Review reactivation campaigns start in the first thirty days of a reputation engagement. SEO is a monthly program and should be given six months.

Ending the engagement

Either side may end an engagement with written notice before the next billing date. Access to hosting, ad management, and review systems ends when the paid period ends, after the handover described above.

Limitation of liability

Slate Marketing LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, for the actions of third-party platforms, or for amounts greater than the fees paid for the service in question in the three months before the claim.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana. If they change, the new version is posted here with a new date.
